Chayanne: 2002

January

  • Chayanne returns from vacation in Puerto Rico to begin production on his new album, starting with a photo shoot in Miami.
  • January 14: Chayanne starts recording Grandes Exitos, his new album of best hits and three new songs.
  • Chayanne and company begin planning his next World Tour, starting in March. New dancers and a new stage production are assembled in Los Angeles.
  • Simplemente is nominated for a 2002 Grammy award in the category of Best Latin Pop Album.

February

  • February 20: Sony announces the release of Chayanne's new single, Y Tu Te Vas.
  • Chayanne shoots two new videos for the songs, Torero and Y Tu Te Vas, which are also included on his new "Greatest Hits" CD.
  • Chayanne performs in Viña del Mar in Chile two successive nights, February 24th and 25th (replacing Rod Stewart). He is honored again as the favorite artist there by audience vote and is awarded a Gaviota.

March

  • Chayanne kicks off his world tour with a concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina at Campo de Polo, and continues in the following days with concerts in Uruguay and Peru.
  • Caras magazine features an article about Chayanne and his "new look".
  • March 11 - 12: Chayanne does promotion in Spain, appearing in a press conference in Madrid. He appears on several TV shows such as Operation Triunfo and Musica Si and also does several concerts in other cities while there.
  • March 20: Chayanne takes part in a live chat at Netmio.com.
  • Grandes Exitos is released on March 21 in the US.

April

  • April 5 - 20: Chayanne continues to wow fans with his tour in Venezuela, beginning with a concert in Valencia.
  • Y Tu Te Vas reaches #2 on the Hot Latin Tracks billboard charts. Both Torero and Grandes Exitos are #1 in Spain.
  • In March and April issues of TV y Novelas, there are articles about the making of Chayanne's videos Torero and Y Tu Te Vas).

May

  • Chayanne travels to Central America from May 8 - 18 performing concerts, beginning in Guatemala.
  • Chayanne is named artist of the month on HTV.

June

  • June 1 - 14: Chayanne brings his tour of concerts to Mexico.
  • Chayanne celebrates his 34th birthday in Puertro Rico on the 29th. On the same night, he presents a fantastic concert at the Hiran Bithorn Arena with fireworks and confetti, performing Torero for the first time on tour.
  • Y Tu Te Vas is #1 on the Latin Billboard Charts
  • Chayanne participates in an online video chat at Zonai.com
  • Chayanne begins his US tour, appearing in Los Angeles and San Diego, CA, June 21st and 22nd.

2002 US Tour

July

  • Chayanne continues the US tour with a July 4th Concert in Dallas, Texas, and next in Houston and El Paso.
  • Judy 12: Chayanne's friends, neighbors and fans are treated to a spectacular performance at the James Knight Center in Miami.
  • Chayanne attends a Chayfest before the concert, and meets his many loving and devoted US fans from the three main fan internet sites.
  • Chayanne completes US concerts in New York, Phoenix, and finally in San Jose on the 21st.
  • July 29: Chayanne begins a gigantic tour in Spain with a concert in La Coruna.

August

  • August 1: Chayanne's Puerto Rican concert is televised on Telemundo (Puerto Rico)
  • A Chayanne interview appears in El Mundo. Es.
  • Chayanne continues his extensive tour of Spain in various cities, such as Malaga, Murcia, Cadoz, Ciudad Real, and also in the Canaries.
  • Chayanne travels to Sweden to perform at "Party in the Park" in Stockholm, where he is a huge success. (The photo on this page is from a Swedish newspaper)
  • Chayanne's management announces he has recorded Y Tu Te Vas (You Go Away) in English.

September

  • September 1: Chayanne continues his tour of Spain with a concert in Pamplona.
  • Chayanne's DVD, Grandes Exitos is released on the 17th.
  • Chayanne concludes his Spain tour with a concert in Sevilla.
  • September 21: Chayanne's Puerto Rican concert is televised in the US on Telemundo.

October

  • October 10-11: Chayanne returns to Venezuela to continue his concerts in Caracas in the Theater Theresa Carreno.
  • Chayanne continues on to Santiago, Chile, with promotion and concerts. He also appears on the De Pé a Pá show
  • Chayanne is nominated for Los Premios Oye for Song of the Year, Y Tu Te Vas.
  • October 23 - 30. Chayanne completes his World Tour, returning to Mexico.
  • The last concert of the 2002 World Tour is given in Mexico City to a crowd of 10,000 fans.

November

  • November 10: Chayanne performs in La Amor Musica in Miami, where he sings, Torero and Y Tu Te Vas and also receives special recognition.
  • Chayanne is nominated for the Premio Lo Nuestro Music Awards in the following categories: Best Male Artist, Performer for the Song of the Year, and People's Internet Award.

December

  • Chayanne is the invited special guest performer at the Miss World Pageant in London. He performs Torero in Spanglish.
  • The December 7th Issue of TV y Novelas magazine features photos of Chayanne in the Amor Concert.
  • December 12: Y Tu Te Vas is #17 on the hot Latin Tracks in US Billboard.
