MIAMI – Describing himself as a “ball of nerves” before the eminent beginning of his new concert tour, Chayanne met on Monday with the press in the Miami studio where he’s rehearsing, and he sang live briefly, accompanied by his band.
“I’m so nervous, my God. Welcome,” he said laughing, when entering the studio and sitting down on a small bench, with the two-level stage he will include in the tour behind him. He wore a long sleeved brown shirt with a t-shirt of the same color underneath and cream colored pants.
Chayanne will depart from Miami on Wednesday bound for Uruguay where he’ll perform on March 6. He will also travel to Argentina where he’s presenting eight concerts in different cities in the country, including Buenos Aires. He’ll visit Chile, where he’ll offer two concerts and also has plans to perform in Colombia.
NO DATE SET FOR PUERTO RICO
April 2nd in Miami marks the beginning of his tour through the United States which includes, at the moment, a dozen stops, including San Diego, New York, Chicago and Houston. Later on, between July and September, Chayanne will take his tour to Europe. Neither Chayanne nor his public relations firm could specify when he’ll be performing in Puerto Rico. The tour should last approximately one year, Chayanne stated.
Although he finds himself full of enthusiasm and nervousness, he admitted to the press when questioned, that touring for a year presents a big sacrifice because it means he’ll be away from his wife and two children. “This is the difficult part of my career,” he said. “But they understand and we always talk on the phone.” Besides, between each concert, as much as he’s able to, he travels frequently to Miami to be with his family.
The show he’ll be presenting revolves around the songs in his most recent album, SINCERO, which was nominated for a Grammy. This album has a more “rock” sound than his previous ones, and the hits from past albums he’ll be including in this tour, have received new arrangements to fit this style, he said.
“If I sing a song like COMPLETAMENTE ENAMORADOS, to go over some of the old hits, it will be with that soft-rock sound of the new album,” said Chayanne, who smiled widely during the press conference at all times and gladly answered all the questions.
Chayanne will be traveling with a band of new musicians and four dancers. At the end of the press conference, he sang live part of “ALIVE,” with verses in English and Spanish, and he sang in its totality, his recent hit, CUIDARTE EL ALMA. Both songs sounded well rehearsed and with a beautiful vocal interpretation by Chayanne.
SINCERE AND FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY
The stage, as far as could be seen during the press conference, is made of two levels. Two platforms come down from the upper level. One veers towards the left of the stage, and the other towards the right. Behind the lower level, there is a series of panels illuminated by multiple lights that spell the word SINCERO.
A humorous moment took place when he was asked, on the occasion of what happened
with Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl, if he had taken any precautions during his show to avoid this type of a slip. “There’s no problem with that. I haven’t told any of the dancers to do anything strange,” he said laughing. “I don’t think I’ll be doing anything that kids can’t watch.”
Chayanne explained to ESCENARIO that the butterflies that are fluttering in his stomach have a lot to do with the fact that everything in the show he’s preparing is basically new from top to bottom. “The band is new; the dancers are new; the choreography is completely new. I’m sweating. I’m going crazy,” he said laughing.
Another novelty in this tour is that we will see Chayanne for the first time, playing the guitar live, confirmed the singer.
The offers to act in television and Hollywood movies continue to arrive regularly, and that is one facet he wants to continue cultivating. “God willing, I’d like to participate in an acting project at the end of this year or early next year.”
